Suzuki Vitara Mid-Sized SUV Spotted In Gurgaon; Creta, Seltos Rival

We informed you earlier that MSIL is readying a new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. The new SUV will be developed by Suzuki-Toyota joint venture, and is reportedly to be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant. In fact, Toyota’s Yaris production line will be utilised for the new SUV. For people not in the know, Toyota has recently discontinued the Yaris sedan from the Indian market.

The fourth generation Suzuki Vitara has been spotted on a transport truck near Maruti Suzuki’s production facility in Gurgaon. The fourth gen Vitara was first introduced in 2015, and is on sale in several international markets. The company had introduced the facelifted model in 2018 to celebrate 30th anniversary.

Suzuki Vitara Spied India

The spotted Suzuki Vitara features the signature design elements such as vertical grille with chrome slats, and a large Suzuki logo in the centre of the grille. It gets sharp headlamps with LED DRLs, and wrap-around LED tail-lights.

The vehicle could be imported to test components or new engine for the upcoming fifth generation Vitara, which is rumoured to make global debut in 2022. The company could also use this model to test new engine for the Indian market.

Suzuki Vitara Spied Alloys

The global-spec Vitara is powered by a 1.4-litre Boosterjet 4-cylinder K14D turbocharged petrol engine with a mild-hybrid tech. This engine is capable of producing 129PS of power at 5,500rpm and a peak torque of 235Nm between 2,000-3,000rpm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Compared to the current generation that measures 4175mm in length, 1775mm in width and 1610mm in height, the new one will be longer, wider and taller. The wheelbase, however, will remain unchanged. The current model rides on a 2,500mm long wheelbase.

The next-gen Vitara is expected to be based on the modified version of the existing platform. It will receive a significantly revised design with more modern design elements. The vehicle will have new LED lighting system, bold shoulder lines and a rakish rear glass for sportier looks.

Suzuki Vitara India Launch

In India, MSIL will introduce a mid-sized SUV jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota. It is reportedly to be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform that also underpins the Toyota Raize. The new model will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in its segment.
