Suzuki To Reveal New Swift, WagonR, Vitara & Alto In 2022

Japanese automaker, Suzuki is preparing new generation models of its existing line-up including the Swift, the WagonR, the Vitara and the Alto. These models are scheduled to be revealed in 2022. According to the Japanese media, the new generation Suzuki Wagon R will make domestic debut in December 2021.

The same report reveals that the 9th generation of the Suzuki Alto will be revealed in January 2022. Maruti Suzuki is also preparing the new Alto, which is reportedly to be launched by mid-2022. The new gen Alto will be based on the improved version of the lightweight HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Suzuki S-Presso and the new WagonR. This is the same platform that also underpins the new Celerio hatchback.

It is reportedly to be powered by a newly developed in-line 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is likely to offer better performance. The new model is also likely to get a mild hybrid system, which will further improve the overall fuel efficiency. It could be the most fuel efficient car in its category.

The Japanese-spec WagonR is different from the one sold in the Indian market. The new model will come with more angular stance instead of the boxy ones. It will come with new grille, headlamps, revised air-dam, new bonnet, squarish wheel arches, new tail-lamps and new alloy wheels. The new model is likely to source power from the R06D, 3-cylinder, in-line engine boosted with rapid combustion system and cooed EGR. This engine is expected to be benefitted with SHVS mild hybrid system. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

New 2022 WagonR Launch

Suzuki is also working on the next-generation Swift hatchback, which is likely to be unveiled in mid-2022. The company is also developing the next generation Swift Sport, which is likely to make global debut in early 2023. The all-new Suzuki Swift will be based on the newly developed lightweight platform, which is expected to be more safer and rigid compared to the existing HEARTECT platform.

The new Swift is likely to get a new refined version of the 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol engine with hybrid system. It could get a stronger hybrid system, which should improve the overall fuel efficiency. The next generation Suzuki Swift Sport is expected to receive a more powerful engine with stiffer chassis. It is expected to receive a more refined 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with the 48-volt mild hybrid system.

Suzuki will also introduce the next generation Vitara SUV, which will receive comprehensive changes and wide-ranging updates to compete well in the fast growing compact SUV segment. It is likely to be unveiled in early 2022. In the international markets, the new Vitara will take on the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Toyota C-HR, etc. The 2022 Suzuki Vitara will grow in size, and will be taller, wider and longer than the outgoing model. It is expected that the platform could be the Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform that underpins the S-Cross crossover in select markets.

The 2022 Suzuki Vitara is expected to be powered by the 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is also offered on the current model. This engine will be benefitted with a mild hybrid tech, which includes a 10kW electric motor, 48-volt batteries and regenerative braking system for improved fuel efficiency.
