It is no secret that Suzuki is working on the next generation Alto hatchback, which was planned to be unveiled by mid-2021. However, the debut delayed to COVID-19 pandemic. Japanese media reports that the new gen Suzuki Alto will be revealed in January, 2022. However, Suzuki is yet to make an official announcement on the same.
The 9th generation Suzuki Alto will be based on the improved version of the lightweight HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Suzuki S-Presso and the new WagonR. In fact, the soon-to-be-launched new Celerio tall-boy hatch will be based on the same platform. The hatchback is reportedly to be powered by a newly developed in-line 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is expected to offer better performance.
Adding to it, new gen Suzuki Alto is also reportedly to get a mild hybrid system. This SHVS mild hybrid system will further improve the overall fuel efficiency of the Alto. It is expected to be one of the most fuel efficient cars in its category.
New Alto In India
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning to introduce the new gen Alto hatch in our market by mid-2022. The hatch is currently in its testing phase. It is likely to receive significant design changes and an upgraded cabin. The new gen Suzuki Alto will have boxy stance and short overhangs, and the increased height for airy cabin. It will have new grille, bumpers, headlight and tail-light, and wheels.
The top-spec model is likely to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Other features likely to include power windows, keyless entry, dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, speed alert system, reverse parking sensors, etc. It is likely to be powered by the same 48bhp, 769cc, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that powers the current car. It could also get a SHVS mild hybrid tech as well as CNG option.
