The Suzuki WagonR is ready to enter into its seventh generation in December 2021. According to a fresh media report, the new model might make its global debut in the last month of this year in Japan. One must note that the Japan-spec WagonR is different from the hatchback sold in the Indian market. Here, the third-generation Maruti WagonR was introduced in 2019 with Heartect platform, improved design, more spacious interior and more powerful engine.

Talking about the 2022 Suzuki WagonR, the new-generation model carries more angular stance instead of the boxy ones. Most of the changes appear to be made at the front end. It features a newly-designed grille, tweaked headlamps, revised air dam and bonnet. The new squarish arches, flat door panels and new alloy wheels enhance its side profile. Save for the newly-designed taillamps, the rear section looks similar to the existing model.
With the generation, the Japanese carmaker might introduce new colour schemes to the model lineup. At present, the Japanese-spec WagonR comes in 6 paint options – Moonlight Violet Pearl Metallic, Urban Brown Pearl Metallic, Blueish Black Pearl, Active Yellow, Blisk Blue Metallic and Phoenix Red Pearl. Noticeable changes are likely to be made inside the cabin as well. On the safety front, the Japan-spec WagonR offers a 360 degree camera, lane departure warning system, emergency stop signal, electronic stability programe, multiple airbags, head up display, high beam assist and stagger warning function. The carmaker might add a few more safety fitment to the model lineup.
The new 2022 Suzuki WagonR will source power from the R06D, 3-cylinder, in-line engine boosted with rapid combustion system and cooled EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). Reports suggest that the mild hybrid system might also get an update. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
