Suzuki Swift Sport In India – Import Unit?

Recently, Suzuki Swift Sport was caught on camera at Mumbai airport. It’s likely to be a private import unit or in the process of shipment to other market. One must note that Maruti Suzuki has no plan to bring in the hot-hatch in the country. Globally, the Swift Sport is ready to receive a generation change sometime next year. If reports are to be believed, the new model will come with a 1.4L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine boosted with a 48V mild hybrid technology. The motor will have better compression ratio and electric intake VVT and EGR.

For performing transmission duties, the hot-hatch will have a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Japanese automaker might use the modified version of the Heartect platform, thus keeping it lightweight. Compared to the current generation, the new one will deliver extra torque and feel faster. While official details are yet to be revealed, the Japan-spec 2023 Suzuki Swift Sport is likely to deliver power close to 160PS. The hot-hatch is expected to witness significant changes inside and out.

Maruti Suzuki’s Future Plan

The Indo-Japanese automaker aims to expand its product portfolio with a range of new SUVs. The company will start with the second-generation Brezza that due for the next month. It will be followed by a mid-size SUV that will be co-developed by Suzuki and Toyota. Reports suggest that the company has begun its trail production at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka. The upcoming SUV is likely to be built on the modified version of Toyota’s TNGA-B platform.

Besides this, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on two new sub-4 meter SUVs and an electric SUV. The company is planning to strengthen its market with strong-hybrid and CNG cars. It will also update its entire model lineup to make it E20 fuel compliant before April 2023.
