Suzuki has announced the new 2021 Jimny Lite, which will be the new entry-level variant for the Australian market. According to the Suzuki Australia, the new variant would “definitely bring down waiting period of the Jimny” which currently commands a waiting period of around 6-8 months.
Suzuki has removed some of the standard equipment for the Jimny Lite to achieve competitive pricing. The changes are made inside and out. Instead of the 15-inch alloys, the Jimny Lite gets a new black 15-inch steel wheels. Adding to it, the company has removed the fog lamps. It gets plastic textured side mirror caps and halogen projector headlamps.
The Suzuki Jimny Lite will also come equipped with a basic in-dash radio/CD player instead of the 7-inch infotainment system offered in the current model. It will continue to be offered with the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 100bhp of power and 130Nm of torque.
The Suzuki Lite will come in manual version only. The automatic gearbox will be offered in the expensive version of the SUV. The new model will be produced in Japan, while India will produce the regular Jimny along with a 5-door turbocharged variant.
Suzuki Australia GM Michael Pachota said that the Jimy Lite ordering process will “maintain the fair allocation process based on customer orders with a queue system as we have done with the current Jimny in 2021.” The Suzuki Jimny Lite will be launched in Australia on August 1, 2021.
The 5-door Suzuki Jimny will be introduced in 2022. In India, the SUV is expected to be introduced by July 2022. It is reportedly to be equipped with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that currently powers the Swift Sport. The SUV will ride on 300mm longer wheelbase.
