Skoda Auto is planning to launch CNG variant of its popular Rapid sedan. While its official launch timeline is yet to be announced, it’s likely to hit roads sometime next year. The carmaker has already started testing the Skoda Rapid CNG in the country. Recently, a test mule of the sedan was spotted on the streets of Pune in Maharashtra. No visual changes appear on the model. It looks similar to the conventionally powered petrol model.
At present, the Skoda Rapid comes with a 1.0L TSI petrol motor that has been tuned for generating power worth 108bhp at 5,500rpm and 175Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. While a 6-speed manual gearbox is standard across the model lineup, a 6-speed torque converter comes as an optional offering. The Skoda Rapid CNG will feature the same gasoline unit along with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Its mileage figure is likely to be higher than the regular model. The power and torque outputs might be slightly reduced.
The 2020 Skoda Rapid model lineup is being offered in 6 variants – Rider, Rider Plus, Ambition, Onyx, Style and Monte Carlo. Prices of the sedan start from Rs 7.49 lakh and go up to Rs 13.29 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The CNG kit is likely to be offered with the base Rider and Rider Plus trims. The entry-level Rider variant comes with features such as halogen headlamps, scuff plate, 15-inch steel wheels with covers, trunk lip garnish, front and rear centre armrests, 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, 4 speakers, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, power adjustable wing mirrors, dual front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, rear defogger, height adjustable front seatbelts and remote central locking system.
The Rider Plus features black and silver design elements highlighted by the black façade of the front grille, glossy black decor on the pillar, turnk lip garnish new window chrome garnish. Inside, it has dual-tone ebony sand colour interior theme with ivory slate upholstery, Climatronic technology with filter and some more fitments.
