Royal Enfield To Launch 650cc Himalayan & Scram

Buoyed by excellent response for new breed of bikes, Royal Enfield is now preparing to launch a wide range of new motorcycles in our market. The company is developing a new 450cc platform, which will be used to develop 5 motorcycles including the new Himalayan 450 and a new naked bike. Moreover, RE is planning to expand its 650cc motorcycle range globally.

Royal Enfield has officially announced to launch the new Super Meteor 650 in the country in January 2023. Moreover, the company is also testing a new Classic 650 and a Shotgun 650 based on the SG650 concept. Adding to it, Royal Enfield is developing a new Bullet 650, and a faired Continental GT 650. What’s interesting is that RE is also developing a new Scrambler 650 and an all-new Himalayan 650.

Leaked documents reveal that the new Royal Enfield 650cc Scrambler will be launched in 2024. On the other hand, the Himalayan 650 will arrive sometime early 2025. Before these two motorcycles, RE will launch the Shotgun 650, Classic 650 and the Continental GT 650 in 2023, and Bullet 650 in early 2024.

What’s interesting is that Royal Enfield Scram or Scrambler 650 has already been spotted testing in India. This suggest that the motorcycle could be launched sometime in 2023. The spotted model was equipped with spoked wheels, USD front forks, Interceptor-like fuel tank, a single-piece seat, round halogen turn indicators and a round LED tail-light & headlamp.

Royal Enfield’s 650cc platform is heavy and wide, and is not likely to suit the needs of off-roading. For off-roading, the bike needs to be light and agile. Royal Enfield would need to make some changes to reduce the overall weight of the motorcycle. The brand’s latest cruiser, Super Meteor 650 weighs 241kg that is 39kg heavier than the Interceptor 650. The new motorcycles will be powered by a 648cc, air-cooled, parallel twin SOHC engine, which is likely to be tweaked for Himalayan & Scram. While powering the Super Meteor 650, the 648cc engine produces 47bhp and 52Nm of torque.
