Royal Enfield Electric Bike Prototypes Ready – Confirms CEO

We have reported earlier that Royal Enfield is planning to foray into the electric motorcycle segment in coming years. Speaking to an online media publication, Vinod Dasari, Chief Executive Officer, Royal Enfield, has confirmed that the company has developed electric bikes’ prototypes. The bikemaker has formed an internal team at its UK R&D centre that will be responsible for developing products and selecting the right segment to enter into the electric space.

Royal Enfield electric bikes will be the part of the brand’s 2.0 strategy. The models will be based on a new electric platform and are likely to feature latest connectivity features. A touchscreen TFT display might also be on offer. While it would be quite early to comment on the powertrain, the bikemaker might use a battery pack ranging from 8-10 kWh paired to an electric motor. The power and torque outputs of the later are likely stand around 40bhp and 100Nm.

If reports are to be believed, the first Royal Enfield electric bike concept might break cover at the 2021 EICMA motor show. Its India launch is likely to happen sometime in 2022. The new RE electric motorcycle will be put up against the Jawa electric bike that’s currently under development. RE’s UK based plant will serve as design and development hub for the electric motorcycles.

Just so you know, Royal Enfield Concept KX that first broke cover at the 2018 EICMA motor show, previewed RE’s electric future. The model features LED headlamps, a retro-styled fuel tank, front and rear lights with new Redditch ‘E’ logo, leather wrapped seats and handlebar grips and dual-tone (Green and Copper) dual exhausts and engine with black and bronze finishes.

More details of the upcoming Royal Enfield electric bike are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
