Renault Kiger Compact SUV – 5 Key Features Explained

Renault India will soon enter into the sub-4 meter SUV segment with the all-new Kiger (codenamed Renault HBC). The model, which is currently in its testing phase, is reported to arrive by October 2020 (i.e. just before the Diwali season).  Here’re 5 important things to know about the upcoming Renault Kiger compact SUV.

The upcoming subcompact SUV from Renault will underpin the CMF-A+ platform that has already used in the Kwid hatchback and Triber MPV. The CMF-A+ is the bigger and wider version of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A (Common Module Family) architecture. It’s capable to accommodate more powerful engines. Nissan’s upcoming Magnite compact SUV will also be based on the same platform. Read – New Renault Sedan To Challenge Maruti Dzire

2. Smallest Renault SUV

The Renault Kiger will be the smallest SUV from the French carmaker in the country. While its dimension details are yet to be revealed, it will be roughly around 3995mm long, 1600mm wide and 1600mm tall. The compact SUV is likely to sit on 2600mm long wheelbase.

3. SUV-ish Stance

We have seen multiple spy pictures of Renault’s upcoming subcompact SUV. The images reveal that the SUV will carry SUV-ish stance along with features such as wing-like grille with chrome-line and headlamps with slim LED DRLs (daytime running lights). Other interesting elements include sharply raked windscreen, beefy C-pillar, muscular haunches and C-shaped taillamps. Read – 3 New Renault and Nissan Cars To Launch In 1 Year

4. Interior Similar to Triber

The interior spy pictures confirm that the Kiger will share most of its features with the Triber compact MPV. Though, it will feature a newly-designed dashboard with a floating 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV will have automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster and central AC vents. Rumour has it that the new Renault compact SUV might get a sunroof. If it happens, the Kiger will be the first Renault car to offer it. More details are likely to be revealed in near future.

5. Only Petrol Engine

The Renault Kiger is reported to be offered with petrol engine only. The subcompact SUV will derive its power from a 1.0L turbocharged petrol motor pushing out power close to 95bhp. There will also be a 1.0L naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a manual and an AMT gearbox option. The turbo-petrol engine will be exclusively offered with a CVT automatic gearbox.
