Renault Kiger – Cheapest Compact SUV To Offer Sunroof?

The French carmaker is ready to enter into the highly-competitive subcompact SUV space with the all-new Renault Kiger that’s slated to arrive in early 2021. The segment has already been crowded with models like the newly-launched Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport. The Kiger’s production-ready version is claimed to retain around 80% design bits and features from its concept that was revealed last month.

Recently, the good folks at Rushlane got their hands on some fresh spy pictures of the Kiger. While the spotted prototypes were heavily camouflaged, we can notice the bulged roof indicating the presence of sunroof. If its production-ready model comes with this feature, the Kiger will become the most affordable subcompact SUV to offer sunroof. Though, it could be reserved for the higher trims. One must note that the newly-launched Nissan Magnite (the most affordable subcompact SUV) misses out it.

The Kiger is likely to be more feature-loaded than the Magnite. Most of its features will be carried over from the Renault Triber compact MPV. The list is likely to include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument console, 3-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic climate control, push-button start and more. There will be a newly-designed dashboard with horizontally placed AC vents.

The Renault Kiger will be made available with two petrol engines – a 1.0L naturally aspirated and a 1.0L turbocharged. While the former makes a top power of 71bhp with 96Nm, the latter is good enough for 100bhp and 160Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard across the model lineup. The turbo-petrol variants will also be available with a 6-speed CVT automatic transmission. The upcoming Kiger will be the most affordable Renault SUV in the country. Though, it will be priced slightly premium than the Nissan Magnite that costs between 4.99 lakh – Rs 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom).
