Renault has revealed a new Kiger show car, which previews the brand’s upcoming sub-4 meter SUV. The company claims that the production version of the Renault Kiger will retain close to 80% of the concept’s design. The new model is scheduled to make India debut in the first half of 2021.
The company claims that the Renault Kiger is designed and developed by the Corporate design teams in France and Renault India. Similar to the Kwid and the Triber, the new compact SUV will first go on sale in India. The new models will also be launched in select international markets including Brazil and Indonesia.
Renault claims that “the objective while designing and developing this car was to make a sub-4 meter SUV which offers an unmatched road presence with an imposing frontal boldness, which makes it dominate the road.”
The Renault Kiger concept comes with striking design elements such as the two-level full-LED headlamps with neon indicators. There is a winged front grille that accommodates a large Renault badge at the centre. The SUV has a ground clearance of 210mm. It rides on large 19-inch wheels shod with big tyres.
The outside rear view mirrors are claimed to be inspired by aircraft wings. At the back, the Kiger Show Car has dual exhaust system and C-shaped tail-lights. The SUV gets an integrated roof-spoiler.
The show caar also comes with unique colour that reveals two different paints. The colour changes by looking at different angle and light. The company calls it “California Dream” as well as “Aurora Borealis”. It changes from blue to purple, depending on the angle and light.
The production version of the Kiger compact SUV has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. Going by the spy images, it is visible that the compact SUV will share most of the design highlights from the show car. Design elements like winged grille with two horizontal slates, the split headlamp setup with LED DRLs on top and main headlight placed lower down the bumper, squared-off wheel arches, dual-tone bumper, black plastic cladding and split tail-lamps will be sourced from the concept.
The production version will also have sloping rear glass, roof-integrated spoiler and uniquely styled C-pillar. The bumper design will be changed, while the production model will have smaller, 16-inch alloys.
The Renault Kiger will source some of the features from the Triber MPV; however, it will have newly-designed dashboard and central console. The spy images reveal that the Kiger will have a dark Grey-Black interior scheme. It will be equipped with a floating 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The compact SUV will have automatic AC, multi-functional steering wheel, digital instrument console, dual glovebox, cruise control, around view monitor, etc.
Powertrain
The Kiger will share the engine options with the Nissan Magnite. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. With automatic gearbox, the peak torque drop to 152Nm.
The compact SUV could also receive the 1.0L NA petrol engine that also powers the Triber. This engine produces 72bhp and 96Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
