Citroen’s Kia Seltos Rival SUV In The Works – Report

It is no secret that Citroen will start rolling locally developed products in India from the second half of 2021. The company will introduce the C5 Aircross SUV as a CBU unit in the first quarter of 2021; however, the first locally developed product will be a sub-4 meter SUV – internally called the Citroen C21.

A new media report claims that Citroen’s upcoming product line-up for India will also receive a mid-sized SUV. This SUV will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and the Nissan Kicks. The report further claims that the new mid-sized SUV won’t be launched before 2022. Citroen is also considering introducing a new premium hatchback and a new sedan.

It is expected that the new mid-sized SUV will be based on the Groupe PSA CMP (EMP1) platform. The common modular platform also underpins the globally popular Peugeot 208 premium hatchback. This platform is compatible to accommodate different body styles and different engines including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. In fact, FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobile) will also use this platform to develop new breed of small cars.

The report also claims that the mass market Citroen products will be offered in petrol version only. Diesel engine option will be restricted for the premium models, and the Citroen C5 Aircross will receive the 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine. The company is reportedly working on an all-new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is expected to produce around 130bhp of power. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
