Talking about Hyundai’s future plan, the carmaker is working on a new mini SUV that will be placed against the upcoming Tata HBX. It will be the smallest and most affordable SUV from the South Korean carmaker in the country. Codenamed Hyundai AX1, the micro SUV will enter into production in September 2021. It will be first launched in South Korean, followed by other global markets. If reports are to be believed, the AX1 based electric mini SUV is also under development. Though, it will come sometime in 2023.

In India, the upcoming Hyundai mini SUV is likely to be offered with a 1.1L, 3-cylinder petrol and a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The former could be reserved for the lower trims. Its global-spec model could also be made available with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor. It’s the same unit that does duty in the India-spec Nios hatchback and Venue subcompact SUV. Some of its features will be carried forward from the Grand i10 Nios.
