Bajaj Freerider Name Trademarked: A New Electric Motorcycle?

We informed you earlier that Bajaj Auto has trademarked the Fluir and Fluor names. These could be the name for the brand’s future electric two-wheelers in India. Interestingly, Bajaj has also trademarked the Freerider name in India. It is the third name to be trademarked by the homegrown two-wheeler maker.

It is expected that the Bajaj Freerider could be the name for the brand’s upcoming electric motorcycle. However, Bajaj Auto is yet to make an official announcement on the same. It is expected that Bajaj could use the Husqvarna e-pilen concept’s platform for an electric motorcycle for the Indian market.

It is also speculated that Bajaj Freerider could be the name of its Bluetooth connectivity software. Following the trend, the homegrown two-wheeler maker could add Bluetooth connectivity option to its entire motorcycle line-up.

Bajaj Auto is also readying a new Pulsar range, which is scheduled to be launched in the end of 2021. The company will introduce the new Pulsar 250 motorcycle, which will rival the Yamaha FZ25 and the Suzuki Gixxer 250. The new Pulsar range will also comprise of a new Pulsar 150 and the Pulsar 180.

The electric concept previews the brand’s future electric motorcycle. It is reported that the motorcycle could be offered with a choice of two electric motor options – 4kW and 10kW. However, the concept was equipped with an 8kW (10.8bhp) motor. Mounted on a frame, the motor sends power to the rear wheels via chain-drive.

The motorcycle will offer an electric range of 100km. The motorcycle will come with swappable batteries. The battery is split into three smaller packs that can be removed from the top area of the fuel tank. It features a new chassis, and has a side-slung monoshock unit similar to the new KTM Dukes. The Husqvarna E-pilen is expected to be manufactured at Bajaj’s plant in Chakan, and India launch is expected in 2022.
