Next generation Volkswagen Polo to go on sale in 2016

German car manufacturer, Volkswagen is working on a new generation Polo hatchback. If media reports are to be believed, the company will launch the sixth generation Polo in March 2016. VW launched the current generation Polo in 2009 in the Indian car market, and has recently introduced the updated version of the hatchback.

The new Polo is reportedly share its design cues with the highly rated Golf hatchback. The vehicle is likely to get and edgier and sportier design, and will feature a new silhouette. According to autobild, the company will slightly modify the dimensions of the car. It is speculated to get longer wheelbase, flatter roof and angled windshield.  With an increase in wheelbase, the hatchback is said to offer spacious cabin than the current model. It will continue to be offered in both 3-and 5-door hatchback body styled.

Adding to it, the company will also introduce a more expensive Cabrio (Convertible) and‘Speedster’ versions of the hatchback.  Interestingly, the Cross Polo would also get different styling than the current model. If reports are to be believed, the next Cross Polo would feature rough-road chassis, larger wheels, high ground clearance and improved seats.

Moreover, the reports also suggest that the company is also working on a compact notchback sedan for the developing nations including India. The new Polo will be lighter and agile than the current model. Under the bonnet, the new Polo series would get a range of new three-cylinder engines. The engine options, reportedly, includes 1.0-litre petrol, 1.4-litre, 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol, and the 1.4-litre diesel motor.

The new Polo is also expected to get advanced safety and security features such as ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with ESP (Electronic Stability Program), adaptive damper control, xenon headlamps, cornering lights, city emergency braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with brake intervention, parking assistant, etc.
