Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch three compact SUVs in the Indian car market in next 2 years. The company is aiming to reclaim its lost ground to the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. Interestingly, all three vehicles will measure less than 4 metres in length. Mahindra is still ruling the utility vehicle sales; however, the sales have fallen to 42 per cent.

The homegrown automaker introduced the Quanto in the sub-4 metre segment, but it failed to generate sales volume for the company. Now, Mahindra is aiming to give a major facelift to Quanto. Moreover, the vehicle is also likely to get AMT (Automated Manual Transmission Gearbox). Codenamed as U215, the Quanto facelift will be positioned between the sub-compact S101 compact SUV and the next generation Bolero.

The Mahindra S101 sub-compact SUV will be pitches as an alternative to premium hatchbacks. The vehicle has been spotted several times during its test rounds on Indian roads. If media reports are to be believed, the company will launch the S101 SUV by the festive season, 2015. It will be based on an all-new monocoque platform, and will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the petrol version will get 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit, the oil burner is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre engine.

The third SUV will be the next generation Bolero, codenamed U301, which might co-exist with the Bolero. The U301 is likely to be offered in both sub-compact and 7-seater version. The sub-4 metre version of the Bolero is likely to get the Quanto’s 1.5-litre twin-turbo diesel engine.
