Next-gen Suzuki Swift Debut In 2022; New Details Emerge

We reported earlier that Suzuki is working on the next generation Swift hatchback. The new model is scheduled to make global debut sometime in 2022; however, official timeline is yet to be revealed. The next-gen Suzuki Swift will come with significant changes in terms of underpinnings.

The next-gen Suzuki Swift is likely to be based on a newly developed platform; however, it will retain the original nature of the existing model. This will help the company to improve the driving performance of the compact hatchback.

The current model is based on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform that underpins the Baleno and the Dzire. The Japanese automaker could alter the platform using high-strength steel, which will make it stronger and safer than the current model.

The next-gen Suzuki Swift will continue to be offered with the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.2-litre petrol with a mild hybrid system. The new model is not likely to be offered with the strong hybrid system. Both engines will have undergone major improvements in terms of fuel efficiency and performance.

The report also claims that Suzuki is also developing the next generation Swift Sport. It is expected to make global debut in 2023. The new model will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that powers the current model. However, the new engine could get a mild hybrid system. The engine could offer higher power output than the current powertrain.

Suzuki is also working on a mid-sized SUV, codenamed YFG for the Indian market. This SUV will be co-developed by Suzuki and Toyota joint venture. It will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant, and is expected to be launched before the end of 2022. The new model will be developed on Toyota’s DNGA platform that underpins the Toyota Raize and the new Avanza 7-seater MPV. It will come with regular ICE engines along with Toyota’s hybrid powertrain.
