Maruti Suzuki is reportedly readying 6 new utility vehicles for the Indian market, which will be launched by 2023. The report claims that the next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza is also under development and is expected to be launched in the first half of 2022. The first utility vehicle from Maruti Suzuki is rumoured to be launched in 2021, and it will be a new mid-sized MPV. The new mid-sized MPV is being co-developed by Suzuki and Toyota.
Maruti Suzuki had introduced the facelifted Vitara Brezza at Auto Expo 2020. The updated model received subtle design upgrades and new interior features along with a new engine. The SUV is only available in a single 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is capable of producing 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.
Details about the next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza are yet to be revealed; but it is expected to be based on the modified version of the existing Global C platform that also underpins the new-gen Vitara. The company could also use the Toyota Raize’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture), which is rumoured to underpin a new mid-sized SUV.
The next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza is likely to retain the existing 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. The company could also introduce a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is reportedly under development. It is highly unlikely to receive a diesel engine, as Suzuki has decided to completely cease diesel car production in India. However, few reports suggest that Maruti could bring back diesel cars if demand stays.
The company is also readying a mid-sized SUV, which is likely to be launched in 2022. This SUV will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks. Adding to it, Maruti Suzuki is also readying a locally developed 5-door Suzuki Jimny. This model is rumoured to be introduced in 2022-23.
