The next-gen Mahindra Bolero is reportedly to be launched sometime in 2026-27; to be based on an all-new U171 architecture.
It is no secret that Mahindra is focusing on electric vehicle space with 5 new models announced for the next 2-3 years. The company has announced to invest over 10,000 crore for its electric vehicle business; however, Mahindra will continue to improve its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) powered vehicle portfolio. The next-gen Mahindra Bolero is already under development, which will be based on an all-new U171 architecture.
A new media report claims that Mahindra is likely to invest over Rs 2,000 crore in the coming decade on this platform. The new U171 ICE platform is expected to spawn a wide range of models including SUVs and pickup trucks. It is expected that Mahindra could introduce around 3 SUVs on this new platform. These 3 models could contribute to around 1.5 lakh sales for the brand annually.
The first model to be developed on this platform is most likely to be the next-gen Mahindra Bolero, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2026-27. With the new Bolero, the company aims to further improve its sales in smaller towns and cities. The current XUV700, Thar and Scorpio have been a huge success in the urban pockets.
The Bolero has been a huge success for the homegrown UV maker in rural and semi-urban markets. This old warhorse continues to enjoy strong loyalty, especially in the Central and North belt of India. Mahindra is currently selling around 8000 to 9000 units of the Bolero nameplate per month and account for 20 percent of the company’s total sales. The Bolero pickup truck is also bringing significant volume for the homegrown UV maker, as the brand enjoys over 60% share in the pickup truck segment.
The homegrown automaker is also gearing up for the launch of the XUV300 facelift in the first quarter of 2024. Adding to it, the long-awaited 5-door Mahindra Thar will be launched in our market in the second half of 2024. The brand’s first Born-electric model, the XUV.e8 is scheduled to be launched by December 2024.
