In the next 6 months, we will witness some important new car launches of the industry. The product lineup will include the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio hatchback to all-new Mahindra Scorpio SUV. Here, we will discuss the next upcoming models from MG Motors India, Kia India and Toyota Kisloskar Motor.
MG Astor
MG Astor will be the new entrant in the mid-size SUV segment to challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta. It will compete against the Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. The Astor is the petrol version of the ZS EV that’s reported to come with the 1.3L turbo petrol engine and 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. The motor will deliver power worth 163PS and 230Nm. The carmaker has already confirmed that the Astor will be the first car in its category to offer level 2 autonomous technology, a personal AI assistance system and Concept of Car as a platform (CAAP) software. The new MG mid-size SUV is expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
Kia Compact MPV
Kia India is ready to enter into the compact MPV segment in early next year. Codenamed Kia KY, the model is currently under its testing phase and caught on camera multiple times. However, the design and feature details of the new Kia compact MPV are still under the wraps. Reports suggest that the upcoming Kia KY will be a 7-seater MPV based on the Seltos’ modified platform. It’s the same architecture that used in the Hyundai Alcazar. Just so you know, the wheelbase of Alcazar is 150mm longer than the Creta to accommodate the third seat of row. Kia’s new MPV might also share its engines with the Seltos. It’s estimated to be priced from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).
Toyota Belta or Hilux
The Japanese automaker might bring in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz re-badged mid-size sedan in coming months. However, there is no official word on its launch timeline. The model is likely to receive minor cosmetic changes, while the interior layout, features and engine setup will remain unchanged. Its prices are likely to be more or less similar to the Ciaz that’s available in the price range of Rs 8.51 lakh – Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Toyota has also planned the Hilux lifestyle pickup for the Indian market. Here, it could be made available in two variants – Hilux and Hilux Revo – packed with the 150bhp, 2.4L diesel or 204bhp, 2.8L diesel engine. Transmission choices will include manual and automatic unit. The pickup might cost around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
