New Tata Safari Electric SUV Under Development

The Tata Nexon EV was the best-selling electric car in India in 2020. Buoyed by the success of its subcompact electric SUV, the home-grown carmaker is planning to electrify more cars in its product lineup including the Altroz and the upcoming HBX mini SUV and Safari 6/7-seater SUV. Speaking to Autocar Professional, Shailesh Chandra, President-PVBU, Tata Motors, has revealed that the entire portfolio of the company can go electric in the future.

The next Tata electric car to hit roads will be the Tata Altroz EV that was previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo. The model will use the brand’s Ziptron electric powertrian that does duty in the Nexon EV. However, its battery capacity and power output could be different. The Altroz EV might also use the all-new Ziptron electric technology, followed by the Tata HBX and new Tata Safari.

New Tata Safari Variants Features

The 2021 Tata Safari SUV has already started arriving at dealerships ahead of its launch in February or March. Official bookings and test drives will begin from 4th February. The new Tata SUV will use the Harrier’s 2.0L Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine that will come with manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options. The oil burner pushes out a peak power of 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. The SUV will come with both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations. However, the 6-seats layout will be exclusively offered on the top-end trim.

Some of its key features include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7.0-inch digital display for instrument cluster, 9-speaker JBL audio system, leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, Boss mode for moving front passenger seat forward, tlit and telescopic steering wheel, 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, hill hold assist, terrain response modes, Isofix child seat mounts, multiple airbags, electronic stability program, rear parking sensors, traction control and more.
