New Tata MPV (Ertiga, Marazzo Rival) – What To Expect?

It is no secret that Tata Motors is working on a wide range of new products including a new mid-sized sedan, a sub-4 meter sedan, a new mid-sized B-segment SUV and an all-new MPV. Adding to it, the company will also introduce the next-gen Nexon compact SUV and the next-gen Tiago hatchback.

Tata Motors is readying an all-new MPV, which will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo. Previous reports suggest that the company will start working on the new MPV after the launch of the Hornbill micro SUV. The Hornbill micro SUV is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2021, most probably in April-May.

Rumours suggest that the new Tata MPV could be based on the ALFA platform, which also underpins the new Altroz premium hatchback. We believe that the Harrier’s OMEGA ARC (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture), which is based on the Land Rover’s D8 platform, could be used to develop the new MPV. The ALFA modular platform is developed to accommodate different body styles measuring up to 4.3 meters in length; however, the new Tata MPV is expected to measure around 4.5 meters.

The OMEGA platform is good enough to accommodate bigger products, as Tata will launch the Gravitas 7-seater SUV based on the Harrier. It is expected that the company could price the new model competitively and it could be launched as an affordable alternative to the Toyota Innova Crysta. The new MPV will come as a replacement to Tata Hexa.

The production version of the new Tata MPV will feature the brand’s new IMPACT 2.0 design language, which we have already seen on the new Harrier and the Altroz. The new MPV will come with flexible seating configurations. The engine details about the new model are yet to be revealed, but Tata could use the Harrier’s 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. This engine is sourced from Fiat and is capable of producing 168bhp and 350Nm of torque.

Tata is also readying a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine to power the Harrier SUV. This engine is rumoured to produce around 150bhp of power and will be paired to manual and automatic gearbox options. With ALFA platform, the new MPV could utilise the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that powers the Nexon. This engine offers 108bhp and 260Nm of torque.

Reports suggest that the new Tata MPV could be launched in the country in 2022; however, Tata is yet to make an official announcement. The testing of the new MPV could begin after the launch of the Hornbill.
