New Maruti Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Mid-Size SUV To Get 6 Airbags As Standard

All new cars in India will soon receive six airbags as standard fitment. In order to make six airbags mandatory in all cars with seating capacity of eight occupants, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had approved a draft notice in January. Now, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has confirmed that six airbags will be mandatory in all passenger cars from 1st October 2022. Additional airbags are likely to increase prices of the vehicles by Rs 50,000.

India’s largest passenger carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is reported to offer six airbags as standard on the second-generation Brezza, updated Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6. The company’s upcoming mid-size SUV, that will be positioned against Hyundai Creta, might also provide protection of six airbags. It’s reported to come with features such as Head-Up display, a 360 degree camera and a premium audio system. The ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite is also expected to be on-board.

2022 Maruti Ertiga front

Reports suggest that the upcoming Maruti mid-size SUV will employ a 1.5L petrol engine borrowed from the existing Vitara Brezza SUV. It could also be offered with Suzuki’s 1.4L Boosterjet engine with the 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. The 1.5L gasoline unit can be had with either a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The new Maruti SUV is reported to hit showrooms just before the 2022 Diwali season.

The 2022 Maruti Eritga and XL6 facelifts are ready for their market launch. Both models have already started arriving at dealerships. A few noticeable changes will be made to their exterior and interior. The second-generation Maruti Brezza is likely to arrive in April 2022. The compact SUV will take a big leap in terms of design and features. It’s rumoured to come with the stronger hybrid system along with the existing petrol engine.
