First launched in 2000, the Maruti Suzuki Alto has been one of the best-selling models in the country. The car has been the first choice for the first-time car buyers for a very long time. As buyers preference shifting towards SUVs, the Alto’s sales have declined significantly in the past couple of years. However, MSIL still believes that the hatchbacks or small cars will remain relevant in the Indian market. In order to improve sales, MSIL will soon launch the new-gen Maruti Alto 2022 in the country.
New Alto Design Changes
The new Maruti Alto 2022 model is expected to be launched before Diwali this year. The entry-level model has been spied undisguised for the first time. The hatchback was caught during its official TV commercial shoot. The latest images reveal the rear and side profile along with the top view of the new Alto.
Previous reports suggest that the trial production of the new Alto has already been commenced at Suzuki’s Gurugram-based production plant. The spy images confirm that the new Maruti Alto 2022 model will be taller and longer than the outgoing model. The new model shares styling cues from the Celerio hatchback.
The previous spy images reveal that the new Maruti Alto 2022 will come with all-new exterior. It will come with larger sweptback headlamps, new bumpers, and restyled taillights. The front fascia will have a new and bigger grille with design similarities with the new Celerio. The hatchback is taller and has boxier side profile. The new model has a flatter roofline and prominent fenders.
The rear design has also been completely changed. It comes with a pair of rectangular tail-lights, new bumper and a larger tailgate. The new Alto is reportedly to be based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform that underpins the new S-Presso and the Celerio. Not just platform, the new Maruti Alto 2022 is likely to share several features and other parts with the S-Presso.
Maruti Alto 2022 Interior & Specs
Thanks to the bigger dimensions, the new Maruti Alto will offer more space inside the cabin. Similar to the exterior, the cabin of the new Alto will receive big changes. It will have an all-new dashboard and central console design. The hatchback is likely to come with a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a semi-digital instrument console, keyless entry, engine start/stop button and others.
It is likely to be powered by the existing 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The company could also add the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which was earlier offered on the Alto K10. The small car will also receive CNG powered model. Latest reports claim that MSIL is also planning to bring back the Alto K10 nameplate.
