Maruti Alto K10 To Make A Comeback In India – Report

With the implementation of BS6 emission norms, Maruti Suzuki had discontinued its highly popular Alto K10 hatchback in April 2020. According to a fresh media report, the automaker might reintroduce the ‘K10’ moniker in the country very soon. The company believes that there isn’t much competition in the entry-level hatchback segment and the Alto K10 might have a good scope. At present, the segment has two models – Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. If reports are to be believed, the new Maruti Alto K10 has been codenamed ‘Y0M’ and it could be offered with a 998cc petrol engine.

While there is no official information on the model, it’s reported to be based on the new-generation Alto that’s due for 2022 festive season. Both hatches could be launched together. When discontinued, the Alto K10 was available with a 1.0L K10B petrol motor that’s was good for 67bhp and 90Nm. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The model lineup was offered in 6 variants – LX, LXi, VXi, VXi (O), VXi Amt and LXi CNG. The hatchback received its last update in April 2019.

2022 Maruti Alto

Talking about the new-generation Maruti Alto, the model will switch to the modular Heartect platform that underpins the brand’s new breed cars. It will also gown in size. The spy images reveal that the hatchback will be taller, wider and more spacious than before. It will carry more angular stance and SUV-like design elements. The carmaker might pack the new 2022 Maruti Alto with goodies like a touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, a semi digital instrument console, keyless entry, power steering and dual airbags.

Under the hood, the new 2022 Maruti Alto is likely to feature a new K10C Dualjet 1.0L petrol engine with idle start/stop system. The motor makes a top power of 67bhp and 89Nm of torque. The existing 796cc petrol engine, which is good for 47bhp and 69Nm, will also be on offer. The carmaker might also introduce a CNG variant.
