New Mahindra Electric SUV Testing Begins – Spy Image, Details

Recently, Mahindra & Mahindra teased its three upcoming electric SUV concepts that will be based on a new EV platform. Touted as the ‘Born Electric Vision’, the new Mahindra electric SUVs have been designed by the brand’s UK based Mahindra Advance Design Europe (MADE) division, which is headed by Pratap Bose. The concepts are scheduled to be unveiled in July 2022. While the automaker hasn’t yet revealed names and details of the new electric models, these are expected to be a compact SUV, a mid-size SUV and a SUV Coupe.

Ahead of their official unveiling, one of the upcoming Mahindra electric SUV has been caught on camera during its testing rounds. The prototype was heavily camouflaged covering most of its design details. Though, one can notice its headlamps with LED DRLs, fog lamp assembly, alloy wheels and dual-tone ORVMs. The spotted test mule is likely to be the Mahindra eXUV300 that made its debut in pre-production avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric

If reports are to be believed, the production-ready version of the Mahindra XUV300 electric could be named Mahindra XUV400. Similar to its concept, the final model is likely to feature a closed off grille and blue highlights here and there that will distinguish it from the IC engine-powered XUV300. The eXUV300 was said to be offered with two battery packs – 350V and 380V. While the former will be placed against the Tata Nexon EV, the latter will face challenge from cars like Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming long-range Nexon EV.

The home-grown automaker had announced that it will bring in 8 new electric vehicles by 2027. Four of them will be derived from the existing petrol and diesel Mahindra SUVs. The new Mahindra electric cars will be designed on a new ‘Born Electric’ platform from the ground up. The company is planning to form an individual sub-brand for its EV range.
