Jeep Meridian Name Confirmed; 7-Seater SUV 1st Teaser Revealed

American SUV maker, Jeep has officially released a new teaser of its upcoming 7-seater SUV for the Indian market. The teaser also confirms that the upcoming 7-seater SUV has been called the Jeep Meridian. The company claims that the SUV is completely ‘Made-in-India’.

The “Meridian” name is inspired by the line that passes through the length of India connecting different states and cultures. The company has also released a camouflage image and a teaser video of the upcoming 3-row Jeep Meridian, which is scheduled to be launched in the mid-2022.

The teaser video reveals that the new Meridian went through intensive testing, covering a distance of over 5,000km from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The SUV seen in the video is covered in a special camouflage that reveal icons from different states. Some of these icons include the India Gate from Delhi, the camel of Rajasthan, the tiger of Madhya Pradesh, elephant of Karnataka and others.

The Jeep Meridian is basically the 7-seater version of the Compass, which is already on sale in select international markets as Commander. However, this name is already trademarked by Mahindra. The front profile of the SUV looks similar to the Compass; however, Jeep has made some changes to give it a fresh feel. The SUV gets a new, sleeker LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps). The SUV gets the signature 7-slat grille and a flat bonnet for a rugged feel. The Jeep Meridian comes with square-ish wheel arches. The rear profile seems heavily inspired by the bigger Jeeps including the Grand Wagoneer and the Grand Cherokee.

Jeep Meridian Teased

The Jeep Meridian will be similar in size as the Commander. It measures 4,769mm in length, 1,859mm in width and 1,682mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,794mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 158mm to accommodate a longer body. Compared to the Compass, the new Meridian is around 364mm longer, 41mm wider and 42mm taller.

Jeep hasn’t reveal the interior of the Meridian; however, it is likely to be similar to the updated Compass. The SUV will feature a 10.21-inch digital instrument console and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity.  It will be offered in 6-and 7-seat options with former having captain seats in the second row.

The upcoming Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is likely to get a 48V mild hybrid system. It is likely to produce around 200bhp of power, and will be paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox with AWD system.
