New Jeep 7-Seater SUV (Fortuner Rival) – 5 Important Facts To Know

The American SUV manufacturer has confirmed a range of new SUVs for the Indian market. The first model to roll out will be the updated Jeep Compass, which will be followed by a 7-seater SUV. While the former will make official debut on 7th January, the latter will come in the second half of 2021. We have seen multiple spy pictures and renderings of the upcoming new Jeep 7-seater SUV revealing interesting design and feature details of the model. Here’re 5 important facts of the SUV that we know so far.

1. New Name

The new Jeep 7-seater SUV will be based on the same monocoque platform as the Compass. In order to increase its length and accommodate an additional third row of seats; however, the carmaker will slightly tweak the architecture. In fact, the wheelbase will also be increased that will translate into more cabin space (especially for the middle row seat passengers).

2. Different Styling

While some of its design elements will be carried over from the 5-seater Compass, the SUV will feature more bulging haunches, new D-pillar section and a larger quarter glass. Upfront, the 7-seat Jeep SUV will carry slimmer LED headlamps, new grille, revised bumper and newly-designed taillamps.

3. More Features

Jeep will pack its upcoming new 7-seater SUV with several comfort goodies and connectivity features. Similar to the 5-seater Compass, the bigger SUV will come with the FCA’s latest UConnect infotainment system that’s claimed to be faster than the existing unit. It has a large 12.3-inch portrait-style display supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa. The SUV will also have features such as connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, cruise control, multiple airbags and many more.

4. Powerful Diesel Engine

Under the hood, the upcoming new Jeep 7-seater SUV will feature the 2.0L, 4-cylinder Multijet turbocharged diesel engine that does duty in the Compass. Though, the carmaker will tune the motor for producing power worth 200bhp. A 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will be standard across the model lineup. The 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system is likely to be reserved for the higher trims.

5. Expected Price

Prices of the 7-seat Jeep SUV are likely to start from Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). If launched at this starting price point, it will take on the large ladder-on-frame and three-row SUVs including Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the newly-launched MG Gloster.
