Groupe PSA had confirmed its plan to launch four new cars in India in the next three years, starting from 2021. The company will start its Indian operations with the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV, followed by a sub-4 meter SUV and a mid-size SUV. The French carmaker is also considering foray into the hatchback and sedan segments along with the electric vehicle space. Here’re upcoming new Citroen SUVs and cars, which are likely to make their way to India in coming years.
1. Citroen C5 Aircross (2021)
Citroen C5 Aircross SUV, which will be launched under the brand’s new ‘C’ Cubed program, will be put up against the Hyundai Tucson. It will be brought to India as a fully imported CBU unit and is expected to be priced around from Rs 28 lakh. Initially, it will be sold in limited numbers across 10 major cities. Engine setup of the SUV might include a 180bhp, 2.0L diesel and a 131bhp, 1.5L diesel motor. Transmission duties will be done by an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
2. Citroen C21 (2021)
Internally know as Citroen C21, the subcompact SUV will face challenge from cars like Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. The model might be offered with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine delivering power around 130bhp. The SUV will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox and 4WD system. There might also be an automatic gearbox on offer.
3. Citroen Mid-size SUV (2022)
According to media reports, the French carmaker will also enter into the highly-competitive mid-size SUV segment sometime in 2022. The model will take head-to-head against the cars like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The new Citroen mid-size is likely to be based on the Groupe PSA CMP (EMP1) platform that also underpins the Peugeot 208 hatchback. It could be quite early to comment on its engine. Though, the SUV is likely to come with the brand’s newly-developed 1.2L turbo petrol engine.
4. Citroen CC21 Mini SUV (2022/23)
The Citroen CC21 (codename) will be a new electric mini SUV from the French carmaker that’s reported to be designed and developed on a new small car platform. The model will be especially developed for emerging markets including India. The model will be positioned against the upcoming Tata HBX and Mahindra eKUV100. It’s likely to be priced from Rs 8 lakh. CK Birla Group’s Thiruvallur based plant in Tamil Nadu will serve as production hub for the mini electric SUV. Powering the EV could be a 1.2L petrol engine with ethanol blends starting from 27% to entirely on the biofuel.
5. Citroen Berlingo XL MPV
The French carmaker is testing the Citroen Berlingo XL MPV in India for quite some time. However, there is no official word about its India launch. Based on a new platform, the Berlingo XL is offered in Standard and Longer versions measuring 4.4 meters and 4.75 meters respectively. The 7-seater MPV features bench type of seats in the second and third row. It comes with two engine options – 110bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L DV5 diesel. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer.
6. Citroen Hatchback and Sedan
As of now, there is no information about the upcoming Citroen hatchback and sedan. Though, the reports suggest that both models might hit roads sometime in 2022 or 2023.
