The long-awaited new Hyundai i20 is set to make India debut in the first week of November, 2020. The company has started dispatching the new i20 to dealerships, which suggests that the India unveil could take place in the next few days. In fact, dealers have already started taking pre-orders for the hatchback. Ahead of the official launch, Hyundai India has revealed the first ever official teasers of the India-spec new-gen i20 hatchback.
The new Hyundai i20 is designed on the brand’s new Sensuous Sportiness design theme, which we have already seen on the new Tucson and the Elantra for the global markets. Design highlights include a large cascading grille in glossy black, sleek projector headlamps with sharper LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) and triangular fog lamp housings. The hatchback gets sculpted bonnet with sharp creases.
Other design highlights include sloping roofline, new tailgate with black treatment, roof-integrated spoiler, shark-fin antenna and wrap-around LED tail-lamps connected by a light strip. Leaked informations reveal that the new Hyundai i20 will be offered in 6 monotone and 2 dual-tone colour options. The montone colours include Sun Burn Sway, Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Fiery Red, Starry Night and Titan Grey. On the other hand, the dual-tone paint schemes include 2 Tone Black with White and Fiery Red with Black.
The teaser reveals that the interior of the India-spec Hyundai i20 shares the design layout with the international-spec model. It comes with all-new dashboard and the new central console dominated by a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Navigation and Voice Recognition, and Hyundai’s BlueLink Connected car technologies. In terms of features, the hatchback gets air purifier with virus protection, digital instrument console, wireless charging system, cruise control, automatic AC, sunroof, Bose premium sound system, rear view camera, etc.
The new Hyundai i20 premium hatch will come with 3 engine options – a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine is capable of producing 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The 1.0L turbo engine is capable of producing around 100/120bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT. The diesel engine is good for 99bhp and 240Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The new model will rival the Maruti Baleno, VW Polo and the Tata Altroz.
