7 Upcoming Sub-4 Meter SUVs & Cars In India In 12 Months

1. Renault Kiger

Renault Kiger Compact SUV

The production version of the Renault Kiger sub-4 meter SUV in the first quarter of 2021. The new model will be based on the alliance’s CMF-A modular platform, which also underpins the Triber and the Nissan Magnite. The new model will come as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and the others. It will be offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine in naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions. While the former is good for 72bhp and 96Nm of torque, the turbo unit produces 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

2. Tata HBX

Tata Motors will launch the production version of the HBX concept in the second quarter of 2021. It will be based on the ALFA modular platform, which also underpins the Altroz premium hatchback. The hatchback will share the interior with the new Tiago and the Altroz. It will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The micro SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that churns out 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT gearbox options will be on offer.

3. Hyundai AX1

Hyundai will enter into the mini SUV segment with an all-new product in the end of 2021. Codenamed Hyundai AX1, the new micro SUV will share styling cues from the Hyundai Venue. In fact, spy images confirm that the new model will look like a baby Venue. The new model is expected to be based on the K1 platform. The Hyundai AX1 could be powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. While powering the i10 Nios, this engine produces 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. The SUV could also receive the Santro’s 1.1L engine that offers 67bhp and 100Nm of torque. Transmission choices might include 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox option.

4. New Honda ZR-V

Japanese automaker, Honda will finally enter into the sub-4 meter SUV segment with an all-new model, rumoured to be called the Honda ZR-V, in mid-2021. The new SUV will first go on sale in home market. In India, the SUV is rumoured to be launched in the end of 2021 or early 2022. The new SUV will be based on the new Amaze’s platform. It will be positioned against the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra XUV300. The compact SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 121bhp and 175Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

5. Citroen C21

French automaker, Citroen will start rolling out locally developed products in India from the second half of 2021. The first locally-developed Citroen will be an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed Project C21. It will be based on the simplified version of the CMP (Common Modular Platform), which underpins the Peugeot 208. The new SUV will rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 130bhp and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine.

6. Next-Gen Maruti Celerio

Maruti Suzuki will launch the next-gen Celerio hatchback in the first half of 2021. The new model will be based on the Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the new WagonR and the S-Presso. The new model will continue to be sold through Maruti Suzuki Arena dealership network. It will come with all-new design, which will have more SUV-ish styling elements. The next-gen Maruti Celerio is likely to be powered by a 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The company is also expected to introduce CNG version of the Celerio hatchback.

7. New Maruti Alto

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the next-generation Alto hatchback in the second half of 2021. The new model will switch to the new Heartect platform that underpins the brand’s new breed cars. It is expected to retain the current styling, but several crossover-inspired parts will be added to give it a new look. The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Alto is likely to come with the 796cc naturally-aspirated petrol engine delivering 48bhp and 69Nm. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer.
