New Honda Bikes To Take On Royal Enfield

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) aims to expand its model lineup in coming years. Speaking to an online media publication, Atsuhi Ogata, President at HMSI, has revealed that the company will introduce multiple new products in the mid-weight motorcycle segment to challenge Royal Enfield. At present, the Japanese two-wheeler maker has two midsize bikes in the portfolio – Honda CB350 and CB350 RS. While the Hness CB350 DLX and DLX Pro variants are priced at Rs 1.94 lakh and Rs 1.99 lakh respectively, the CB350 RS monotone is available at Rs 1.89 lakh and CB 350 RS dual-tone version costs Rs 1.95 lakh. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.

In this segment, the company aims to achieve sales target of 300,000 units per annum within 3 years. It will also expand its sales network to 300 touchpoints from 70 Big Wing outlets in the coming years. Honda plans to setup 100 Big Wing showrooms to cover top 50 UIO (Units of Operation) areas towards the end of this fiscal year.

Talking about HMSI’s future plan, the company will enter into the electric two-wheeler segment in the next financial year. It will conduct feasibility test for its first electric vehicle with its dealerships in the coming weeks. Honda might bring in the PCX electric scooter that was previewed at the 2018 Auto Expo. Here, it will lock horns against products like TVS iQube, Bajaj eChetak, Ola S1 and S1 Pro, Okinawa, Ather and Okinawa.

The Honda PCX comes with the removable lithium-ion battery – Honda Mobile Power Pack. Its electric motor offers power worth 5.6bhp and a maximum speed of 67kmph. The e-scooter will promise a range of 41km on a single charge. Its battery packs can be juiced up via the conventional cable charger in 6 hours or separately in 4 hours. The PCX’s overall length, width and height stand at 1923mm, 745mm and 1170mm respectively.
