Maruti Suzuki is on a roll. Months after it launched the new-gen Celerio and updated Ertiga and XL6, the carmaker is now gearing up to introduce the much-awaited second-generation Maruti Brezza. The subcompact SUV is reported to witness a market release this month (i.e. May 2022). It will be followed by a new-mid-size compact SUV and new Maruti Alto hatchback. The former will be placed against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos during this Diwali season.
While there is no official word on the launch timeline of the new-generation Maruti Alto, a fresh media report states that the hatchback might enter production by the end of June 2022. Its market launch is expected to happen in July or August – i.e. a couple of months before the festive season. It will surely be the most important car launches of this year. Taller, Higher & Lighter
Compared to the current generation, the new Maruti Alto will be taller and higher. This time around, the hatch will carry crossover-ish stance with flatter roofline. Though, the signature boxy stance will remain intact. The spy images show that the new Alto will feature a newly-designed grille with honeycomb mesh pattern, updated headlamps, a sculpted bonnet and slightly tweaked front bumper with new C-shaped fog lamps. Suzuki’s Heartech platform will make the hatch lighter than before.
More Features
The carmaker is likely to equip the new Alto with some extra goodies including a touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, engine start/stop button, a semi digital instrument console and keyless entry.
Updated Powertain
Reports suggest that the new 2022 Maruti Alto could be offered with a 1.0L K10C petrol engine making power worth 66bhp and 89Nm of torque. The existing 796cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine will also be on offer. The motor makes a top power of 47bhp and 69Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki might introduce the Alto CNG with the generation. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer.
