New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Hatchback (New Celerio) – What We Know So Far

Indo-Japanese automaker, Maruti Suzuki is readying an all-new entry-level hatchback, codenamed YNC. The new model is rumoured to be called the next-gen Maruti Celerio. It is likely to be launched in the country in the end of this year or early next year; however, Maruti Suzuki is yet to make an official statement on the same.

The current generation Celerio was launched in 2014 and is due for a generation change. With new model, Maruti Suzuki will aim to further strengthen its market position as buyers now prefer personal mobility instead of the shared mobility. Due to Corona Virus, buyers are now opting to buy new small cars.

The new-gen Maruti Celerio will be based on the advanced and lightweight Heartect platform, which also underpins the S-Presso and the new WagonR. The new model will continue to be sold through Maruti Suzuki Arena dealership network. It will come with all-new design, which will have more SUV-ish styling elements.

The new model is likely to be introduced as an entry-level crossover, which will be positioned against the upcoming Tata HBX and the Renault Kwid. The new hatch will also receive some of the high-end design features like LED daytime running lamps, stylish tail-lamps with LED inserts, rear wiper, wing mirrors with integrated blinkers and newly styled alloys. The new Celerio will have higher ground clearance and more upright stance.

The cabin of the new Celerio is likely to be equipped with features like Suzuki SmartPlay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic air-conditioning, multi-functional steering wheel, powered ORVMs and reverse camera. In terms of safety and security, the entry-level hatchback gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, speed alert, seat belt reminder and rear parking sensor as standard.

The next-gen Maruti Celerio is likely to be powered by a 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The company is also expected to introduce CNG version of the Celerio hatchback. Maruti Suzuki has decided to offer factory-fitted CNG kit with all its small cars. The company is also readying an all-new 800cc entry-level hatchback, which is rumoured to be the next-gen Maruti Alto. The new model is rumoured to be launched in 2022.
