MG Hector Gets Largest 10.4-inch touchscreen – Launch Next Month

MG Motor is all set to launch the long-awaited new Hector SUV in India in the next 2 months. Though the exact launch date is yet to be announced, but reports claim that the SUV could go on sale in May 2019. The new MG Hector is claimed to be India’s first Internet Car, which is equipped with several in-car technologies and segment-first features. Called the iSMART Next Gen, the new tech has been developed with the help of tech-giants including Microsoft, Adobe, Unlimit, SAP, Cisco, Gaana, TomTom and Nuance.

The MG Hector is fitted to segment-biggest 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which has vertical interface to allow the driver to control the entire car system with just a touch or voice command. It comes pre-loaded with entertainment content. MG Hector iSMART Next Gen comes with an industry first embedded M2M sim that ensures that the car remains connected. The MG Hector SUV is also the first in India to bring the revolutionary Over The Air (OTA) technology to cars.

The Touchscreen unit will be compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and other modern day connectivity features. The company hasn’t revealed the complete interior of the SUV, but it is expected that the MG Hector will be loaded with several segment-leading features. In terms of features, the Hector SUV will get automatic climate control, leather seats, reverse camera, India-largest panoramic sunroof, and 360 degree surround view camera.

MG has revealed the exterior pictures of the Hector SUV, which clearly suggests that the SUV is nothing but the re-badged Baojun 530. The Baojun 530 SUV is currently on sale in the Chinese market in 5- and 7-seater avatars. Some of the design highlights include blacked out pillars, hexagonal grille with chrome surround, two-piece headlamp setup with LED DRLs, single-piece LED tail-light, floating roof-line, etc.

The MG Hector SUV will be available with 2 engine options – a 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid. Sourced from the FCA, the diesel powertrain is capable of producing 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. The petrol engine will be coupled with a 48V mild-hybrid engine, and is capable of producing 140bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a dual-clutch transmission.
