The MG Hector will be equipped the iSmart system, which is one of the most advanced in-car tech system
SAIC owned MG Motor today launched its in-car technology, iSmart Next Gen, to be featured in its upcoming SUV MG Hector. Developed in partnership with global tech players like Microsoft, Adobe, SAP, Cisco, Nuance, Gaana, TomTom and Unlimit, the iSmart system will be one of the most advanced in-car tech system that we have seen in the country so far. The company is apparently calling the MG Hector, the country’s first internet car.
The iSMART Next Gen will feature a 10.4-inch touchscreen with a vertical interface that will help the driver manage almost all the features of the car with just a touch or voice command. The system also features entertainment content, says MG. The iSmart also gets the industry-first embedded M2M sim, which means the car will remain connected to the internet all the time. This solution has been developed by Cisco and Airtel in collaboration with Jasper platform and telecommunication network respectively. The company further says that this solution is IPV6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) compatible for 5G.
First automobile player to bring OTA technology to cars in India
Interestingly, the MG has become the first automobile player in the country to bring Over The Air (OTA) technology to cars, which will enable customers to receive real-time software, entertainment content and application updates. Users will have an option to either download the software updates immediately or schedule it for later time duration, just like smartphones.
“The integration of internet with cars opens up a gamut of features that can ensure a seamless and updated ownership experience for MG customers in India. With an embedded SIM card and OTA, the MG Hector promises to do a lot more over time with constantly-expanding capabilities, to create a seamless driving experience, throughout the life of the car,” said Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India.
Voice Assist allows over 100 voice commands
The MG Hector’s system also features Voice Assist that works on the cloud and head unit. It’s developed by Nuance for MG India, and has been specifically designed for Indian accent learning. By saying ‘Hello MG’, the system will get activated, and it will allow over 100 voice commands including opening and closing sunroof, windows, climate control unit functions, navigation, etc. And it will also work even in poor connectivity conditions.
Real-time navigation by TomTom, Premium Gaana App & Accuweather
The real-time navigation app of MG Hector has been developed by TomTom, and this system would frequently update maps, locations and routes via IQ Map feature. The Hector will also have Gaana app with premium account and Accuweather to help customers access music and weather reports respectively.
Allows owners to locate their cars remotely and geo fence it
MG’s iSmart will also help its owners locate their cars remotely and geo fence it, so the car cannot be driven out of a predefined zone. The application uses driver analytics data to help people driver smarter. The iSMART is hosted on Microsoft Azure Cloud.
To make the customer journey easy, MG partnered with Adobe and Cognizant to develop the first Adobe Experience Cloud.
