MG Astor, the upcoming mid-size SUV from the British carmaker, is ready to make official debut on September 15, 2021. Its launch is likely to happen in the month of October. While its official bookings are yet to be commenced, select MG dealers have already started accepting pre-orders at an initial sum of Rs 50,000. Ahead of its official unveiling, the variant and feature details of the model have been emerged on the web. The new MG SUV will be made available with two petrol engines – 1.5L and 1.3L turbo. The former has been borrowed from the Hector, though it will be detuned. It can be had with either a manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The 1.3L gasoline motor will be more powerful and will be exclusively available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The power and torque figures of both engines are yet to be revealed. The MG Astor will come in a choice of five colour schemes – Black, White, Orange, Red and Silver.
The automaker has already confirmed that the Astor will be the first vehicle in its segment to offer ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems). The safety suite includes forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, speed assist system, lane departure prevention, rear drive assist (RDA) and intelligent headlamp control (IHC). Though, the ADAS along with the 6 airbags and 17-inch alloy wheels will be reserved for the range-topping Savvy trim.
The upcoming MG Astor will also be the first car from the brand to offer a personal AI (artificial intelligence) assistant system. It will have a voice of the Paralympic athlete and Khel Ratna Awardee Dr. Deepa Malik. The SUV will come with JioSaavn app for streaming music and videos.
