MG Motor India has revealed engine specifications of its upcoming Astor mid-size SUV that’s slated to debut on 15th September 2021. The SUV will be made available with two petrol engines – 1.3L turbo and 1.5L naturally aspirated. While the former is claimed to return a maximum power of 161bhp and 230Nm of torque, the latter pushes out power worth 118bhp and 150Nm. Just so you know, the Creta and Seltos come with the three BS6-compliant engines including 115bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 115bhp, 1.5L turbo diesel and 140bhp, 1.4L turbo petrol. Compared to the Creta and Seltos’s 1.5L NA and 1.4L turbo petrol engines, the Astor’s 1.5L NA and 1.3L turbo gasoline motors offer around 3bhp and 21bhp more power respectively. In fact, the new MG SUV is more powerful than the Skoda Kushaq that gets 115bhp, 1.0L TSI petrol and 150bhp, 1.5L TSI petrol engines.

The British carmaker has confirmed that the MG Astor will be offered with manual and automatic gearbox options. While the 1.3L unit will be exclusively available with the automatic transmission, the 1.5L engine can be had with either a manual or a CVT unit. The SUV model lineup will be spread across five trims – Style, Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy. While the Super and Smart variants will be offered with 1.5L NA petrol engine, the range-topping Sharp and Savvy trims will come with 1.3L turbo petrol unit. The upcoming MG Astor will be the first car in its segment to offer Level 2 autonomous technology along with a personal AI (artificial intelligence) assistant system, JioSaavn app for streaming music and videos, 6 airbags and 17-inch alloy wheels. The SUV is reported to be offered in five exterior colour options – Silver, Red, Orange, White and Black.
