Morris Garages has a range of new vehicles for the Indian market that will arrive in the next couple of years. While the MG Astor will be the next big launch from the British carmaker, it’s likely to be followed by a subcompact SUV, a compact MPV and a hatchback. The company will also expand its electric product portfolio with two new models (compact SUV and hatchback) based on the Baojun E200 platform. Both models, however, are reported to launch after 2024.
The upcoming MG EVs will be priced below Rs 10 lakh and target mass market. As mentioned above, the EVs will underpin the SAIC’s Baojun E200 architecture that’s retailed in the Chinese market. Powertrain system of the compact EV includes a 39bhp electric motor offering a range of 210-270km on a full charge under NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) test cycle. The two-seater compact electric car is capable to attain a top speed of 100kmph. It combines two parts of the motor and the reducer for transmission noise and motor vibration.
The Baojun E200 has futuristic design and has remote interactive system that provides users information on parking navigation, charging, power supply, vehicle inspection and more. It offers 11 storage spaces include card slots, special hooks, slots in the armrests and a concealed space in the passenger seat. One can also fold its rear passenger seat forward to create space for large items. The compact electric car has AC unit featuring a low-noise compressor and low-noise fan. Compared to the MG ZS EV, the upcoming affordable MG electric cars will have smaller battery pack and deliver lower range. It will be good enough to serve the daily city commuting purposes. As the carmaker believes the EVs in India should deliver “good performance, design and ground clearance”, the upcoming MG electric cars are likely to be developed to meet market specific requirements.
