New Maruti Suzuki 7-Seater SUV – Ertiga Platform, Hyundai Alcazar Rival

Maruti Suzuki has planned 5 new SUVs for the Indian market, which are slated to hit roads in the next 3 years. The plan outlines the new-generation Brezza, 5-door Jimny, Baleno-based crossover, a mid-size SUV and a three-row SUV. While the Baleno-based compact SUV will take on the higher variants of the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet, the new mid-size SUV will compete against Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming three-row SUV will lock horns against the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari.

Codenamed Y17, the new Maruti three-row SUV is reported to share its platform with the Ertiga MPV that will receive an update next year. The model could be offered with both 6 and 7-seats configurations. Since it will be the brand’s new flagship model, the Y17 will be the most expensive Maruti Suzuki car in the country. Rumour has it that the new Maruti 7-seater SUV could be introduced as a replacement to the XL6. However, the company is reported to give a mid-life to the Maruti XL6 in the next month (i.e. January 2022).

In other updates, the Indo-Japanese automaker has confirmed that it will increase vehicles’ prices in January 2022. The reason behind the price hike is said to be the consistent increase in various input costs.

In an interview with PTI, Shashank Srivastava, Maruti Suzuki India Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) said that the company’s material cost to net sales ratio had increased up to 80.5 percent in the second quarter. Usually, the material cost of an OEM stands around 70-75 percent. The company will pass on some impact of the additional costs to customers via a price hike.

More details on the new Maruti premium 7-seater SUV are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
