Kawasaki W175 Bike Spotted; India Launch This Diwali

Kawasaki Motors India is planning to foray into the entry-level retro-style classic motorcycle segment with the W175 that’s already on sale in several Asian markets. The model was recently spotted testing in Pune. The test mule was camouflaged covering most of its design details. The Kawasaki W175 bike carries retro design elements such as round headlamp, teardrop shaped fuel tank, circular rear view mirrors, wire-spoke wheels and single piece seat with ribbed patter.

The new Kawasaki sub 200cc bike gets side-on exhaust with a thin nozzle head muffler. The squarish taillamp with circular turn indicators further enhance its retro looks. You can notice the sporty black treatment on the leg guard, swingarm, exhaust and suspension. The bike has fork gaiters at the front. Unlike the global model, the India-spec version could be offered with the conventional single piece grab rail.

The upcoming Kawasaki W175 bike features a single-pod, analogue instrument cluster with a “W” insignia inside. It reads out information from the odometer, speedometer and tripmeter. While the global spec version weighs around 126kg, the India-spec model might weigh more to meet the mandatory safety and emission standards.

Talking about the powertrain, the upcoming new Kawasaki 175cc bike derives its power from a 177cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled SOHC engine. The motor pushes out a peak power of 13.05bhp at 7,500rpm and 13.2Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed gearbox.

For performing suspension duties, the Kawasaki W175 uses the conventional telescopic forks with normal rubber stockings and a twin shock at the front and rear axles respectively. Its braking system includes 220mm disc at front and 110mm drum brake at the rear. In India, the new Kawasaki sub 200cc bike might get single-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system) as standard.

If reports are to be believed, the company aims to achieve 90% localization level for the upcoming Kawasaki W175. It’s estimated to cost around Rs 1.20 lakh – Rs 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it will be more affordable than the Honda H’Ness CB50, Royal Enfiled Classic 350 and Jawa. The W175 will be the most affordable and smallest capacity Kawasaki bike in the country.
