Sales of the CNG cars were all-time high in financial year 2021 in the country. The automobile industry recorded a massive 49% Year-on-Year growth with sales of 171,288 units in the last fiscal year against 114,791 units of FY2020. The market share of CNG cars has increased to 6% in FY2021 from 4% of FY2020. Maruti Suzuki emerged as the top CNG car manufacturer with total sales of 1.57 units in FY2021, registering YoY growth of around 45%. Due to the constantly increasing petrol and diesel prices, buyers are now switching to more affordable and greener fuel alternatives including CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles. Furthermore, the better fuel efficiency and improved CNG refilling infrastructure further encouraged sales of the CNG cars in India. The government has also been promoting CNG and electric vehicles by offering attractive incentives on their purchase. Maruti Dzire CNG

Tata Nexon CNG
