Maruti Suzuki’s Creta-Rivalling SUV (Vitara) Coming In July 2022

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the new Brezza compact SUV on June 30, 2022. The company will also launch two important products – a new mid-sized SUV and the next-gen Alto before the end of this FY23. The Maruti Suzuki’s Creta-rivalling SUV is reportedly to make debut in India in July 2022. It will be based on the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which is scheduled to make global debut on July 1, 2022.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki’s mid-sized SUV is rumoured to be called the new Vitara. The company has removed the Vitara prefix from the new Brezza. The new Maruti Suzuki Vitara will be a global offering and is expected to be exported to select international markets including Africa and Europe. The new model is also reportedly to replace the current Vitara in overseas market that has been on sale since 2015.

Toyota Hyryder SUV

The new Maruti Vitara will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. The SUV will be built on Toyota’s heavily localised TNGA-B or DNGA platform. Not just platform, the new Vitara will share the components and features with the Toyota Hyryder. It will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based production plant in Karnataka.

The new Suzuki Vitara is reportedly to be offered with two engine options – a 103PS, 1.5-litre petrol with mild hybrid and a 116PS, 1.5-litre petrol with strong hybrid tech. The SUV is also expected to receive the segment-first AWD system; however, it will be reserved for the mild-hybrid powertrain. The strong hybrid setup will come with the self-charging and FWD (front-wheel drive) system. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (mild-hybrid) and a e-CVT (Strong Hybrid).

The new Maruti Vitara will be sold through NEXA premium dealership network. The SUV will replace the ageing S-Cross crossover. If reports are to be believed, the Suzuki Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder could also get advanced driver assistant system (ADAS). The new model is expected to be launched around August-September 2022.
