Maruti Suzuki is working on a wide range of new SUVs for the Indian market. The new models will be launched in the next 3-4 years. This year, MSIL will introduce the new Brezza and an all-new mid-sized SUV codenamed YFG. Moreover, the company is developing an all-new Compact SUV Coupe, codenamed YTB, with a stronger hybrid engine.
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is also working on an all-new electric SUV, which will be based on Toyota’s new 27PL architecture. Adding to it, MSIL is also working on a long wheelbase version of the Jimny lifestyle SUV. The new 5-door Jimny is expected to be launched in 2023-24. The company is also reportedly working on a new 7-seater SUV, codenamed Y17. It is likely to arrive in our market in 2024-25.
5-Door Maruti Jimny LWB
The new 5-door Maruti Jimny will be offered with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with 12V SHVS mild-hybrid technology. This engine churns out 102bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. Compared to the 3-door version, the 5-door Jimny will be 300mm longer and sit on 300mm longer wheelbase. The latter measures 3850mm in length, 1645mm in width and 1730mm in height with a wheelbase of 2550mm.
The LWB Jimny will be equipped with several high-end features such as LED DRLs & LED tail-lights, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, height adjustable driver’s seat, automatic AC, hill hold assist, rear AC vents, cruise control & others.
Maruti Y17 7-seater SUV
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing a new 7-seater SUV, codenamed Y17 for the Indian market. The new 7-seater SUV is likely to replace the Suzuki XL6. It is expected to be based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform that underpins the XL6. The platform could be tweaked with high strength steel and better quality material.
The new model will rival the likes of the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and others in its category. The new model could be offered in 6 and 7-seat layouts with former having captain seats in the second-row. Engine specs are yet to be revealed; however, it could get a 1.5L K15B petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system.
