Maruti Suzuki Plans 2 New EVs for Indian and Export Markets

Maruti Suzuki is set to make a significant foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market this year, unveiling an SUV based on the eVX concept with the final production version expected towards the year’s end. Following this, an entry-level electric hatchback is anticipated to join the lineup by 2026-27. Rahul Bharti, Executive Director at Maruti Suzuki India, disclosed at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit that the company will commence exports of its upcoming EVs to Japanese and European markets in the current year.

With an eye on expanding its export portfolio, Maruti Suzuki aims to ship Li-ion battery cells and modules worth approximately Rs 750 crore in the ongoing financial year. Presently, the company exports these components from its facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat, to international markets. To facilitate this growing demand, Maruti Suzuki plans to establish a second plant in Gujarat, involving an investment of Rs 38,200 crore. Additionally, a fourth line will be added at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant, boosting the annual production capacity to 10 lakh units from the existing 7.5 lakh units.

Maruti Suzuki EVX Concept EV

The upcoming Maruti eVX electric SUV is set to ride on an all-new skateboard platform, internally known as 27PL, measuring 4.3 meters in length. Equipped with a 60kWh battery pack, it is expected to offer an impressive range of around 500km on a full charge. The eVX will boast an AWD (all-wheel drive) system and retain key design elements from its concept, including tri-arrow LED DRLs, prominent wheel arches with alloy wheels, and flush-type door handles.

Positioned to compete with the Tata Tiago EV, Maruti Suzuki’s entry-level EV will be developed on a new K-EV (codename) electric architecture, derived from Toyota’s 40PL global platform.

Further details about these upcoming Maruti EVs are anticipated to be unveiled in the near future, stay tuned for updates on IndiaCarNews.
