Maruti Suzuki previewed the three-door Jimny compact off-roader at this year’s Auto Expo. If reports are to be believed, the company is planning to launch its 5-door version sometime in 2022. India will serve as export hub for the 5-door Suzuki Jimny. It seems that the carmaker has already started assembling and testing the vehicle in the country.
Recently, a test mule of the Maruti Jimny was spotted testing in Manesar near the carmaker’s manufacturing plant. Painted in White shade, the spied model carries the signature tall and sturdy stance. Upfront, the compact off-roader features circular headlamps, black grille and bumper with integrated fog lamps.
Other design highlights include black ORVMs with chrome lining, pronounced wheel arches, black rear bumper with integrated taillamps and rear gate mounted spare tyre. While there is no official word on the India-bound 5-door Maruti Jimny, it’s likely to come with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, K15B petrol engine. Read – 7 Maruti Suzuki Cars To Launch In India
The motor will be tuned for generating power worth 102PS at 6,000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. It’s the same engine that does duty in the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6. The compact off-road SUV might be offered with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. It will come with both 4X4 and 2WD (two-wheel-drive) system. In Japan, the Jimny is also offered with a 660cc turbo-petrol engine.
The Suzuki Jimny had received 3-star safety rating in Euro NCAP crash test. Its Euro-spec version scored 73 percent in adult occupancy, 84 percent for child occupancy, 52 percent for vulnerable road users and 50 percent for safety assist systems. The compact off-road SUV comes equipped with autonomous emergency braking system, six airbags, a lane assist system, Isofix child seat mounts and a seat belt reminder. Details of the India-bound Maruti Jimny are likely to be revealed in near future.
