Maruti Jimny Receives Over 23,500 Bookings, Fronx At 15,500

Maruti Suzuki had unveiled the 5-door Jimny lifestyle SUV and the Fronx crossover at the 2023 Auto Expo. In fact, bookings for the new SUVs were opened on January 12, 2023 – second day of the Auto event. Both SUVs will be sold through NEXA dealerships. The Fronx crossover and the Jimny SUV can be booked online or at authorised dealerships by paying a sum of Rs 11,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. 

Speaking to the media, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said that the 5-door Jimny lifestyle SUV has received over 23,500 bookings. On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx gets around 15,500 bookings. While the Fronx crossover will go on sale in the first half of April 2023, the Jimny lifestyle SUV will go on sale by May-June 2023.

Based on the rugged ladder-on-frame chassis, the 5-door Jimny lifestyle SUV will be positioned against the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B naturally-aspirated petrol engine with idle start/stop system. This powertrain produces 105PS and 137Nm of torque, and can be had with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV has Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox as standard. 

It has an approach angle of 36°, a departure angle of 50°, and a break-over angle of 24°. The SUV has a ground clearance of 210mm and offers a boot space of 208-litre. It will be offered in two trim levels – Zeta and Alpha. For safety and security, the new 5-door Suzuki Jimny gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, electronic stability program (ESP), brake assist and a rearview camera as standard.

The new Fronx crossover is basically the crossover version of the Baleno hatchback. It will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol. While the former is good for 100bhp and a peak torque of 147.6Nm, the 1.2L NA engine produces 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual as standard, a 5-speed AMT with naturally-aspirated unit and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with turbo petrol engine. 

The SUV gets six airbags, vehicle stability control, ABS with EBD, a 360 degree camera, rear parking sensors and others as safety features. In terms of features, the crossover gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, Arkamys-tuned sound system, wireless phone charger, Heads-Up Display or HUD, connected car tech, keyless entry, automatic AC with rear AC vents, push-button start, cruise control and others.
