Toyota Preparing 3 New SUVs For India – New-gen Fortuner

Japanese automaker Toyota has recently launched the new Innova Hycross and the Hyryder SUV in the Indian market. The company is planning to add more SUVs in its line-up in the next 2-3 years. This year, the brand will launch a new SUV Coupe based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Moreover, the company is developing the next-gen Fortuner SUV that is scheduled to be launched by 2025. 

Toyota is also reportedly working on a new 3-row SUV for the Indian market. This 3-row SUV will be based on the Corolla Cross SUV, which is on sale in the global markets. The Corolla Cross is based on the TNGA-C platform that underpins the recently launched Innova Hycross. The new Corolla Cross 7-seater SUV for India will take on the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700 and the Jeep Meridian. 

Toyota Corolla Cross 7-seater

The Toyota Innova Hycross has a wheelbase of 2,850mm, while the Corolla Cross 5-seater model rides on 2,640mm wheelbase. The company could increase the wheelbase by around 150mm, which should help the brand to add an extra pair of seats. It is likely to share the engine options with the Hycross. The engine options will include a a 172bhp, 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 186bhp, 2.0-litre petrol with Toyota’s self charging strong hybrid tech.

The next-gen Fortuner is expected to make global debut in 2024. It will come with all-new design and upgraded cabin along with a new engine option. It will be designed & developed on the new Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture, which underpins the Tundra and the Sequoia and the Land Cruiser SUVs. This platform supports a wheelbase length of 2,850-4,180mm. The new-gen Fortuner will be offered with a new diesel engine with mild hybrid system. It will come with a new 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine with an integrated starter generator. 

Yaris Cross Details

Internally codenamed A15, the upcoming Toyota SUV Coupe will be based on the Fronx crossover. It is expected to share the styling cues from the Yaris Cross. It will be offered with two petrol engines – a 100bhp, 1.0L 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo and a 89bhp, 1.2L Dualjet 4-cylinder petrol. Both engines benefit from Suzuki’s mild hybrid tech.
