Maruti Grand Vitara Gets Suzuki’s All-Grip AWD System – Details

Maruti Suzuki will unveil the much-awaited Grand Vitara SUV on August 20, 2022. The company has released multiple teasers revealing the exterior design. A latest teaser reveal the AllGrip all wheel drive (AWD) system that will be offered on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. To be sold through NEXA dealership chain, the new SUV can be booked online or at authorised dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000.

Production of the new Maruti Grand Vitara will commence from August 2022. Set to be the new flagship model, the new Vitara SUV will replace the ageing S-Cross crossover. The all-wheel-drive system will be offered with the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. This engine is capable of producing 101bhp of power and 136.8Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

It is expected that the All-Grip all-wheel-drive system will be offered with the manual gearbox version of the Maruti Grand Vitara. It is the same AWD system that is offered on the global-spec Suzuki Vitara. The teaser confirms that the AllGrip all-wheel-drive system will offer 4 driving modes – Auto, Sand, Snow and Lock. In the auto mode, the AWD system intelligently sense terrain and vary torque to the wheels on demand. The front wheel drive version of the Vitara’s 1.5L petrol will come with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

The new Grand Vitara will also come with a strong hybrid powertrain. It will get the Toyota’s 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol with a strong hybrid tech. The petrol engine produces 91bhp and 122Nm of torque. It is coupled to a synchronous AC motor that pushes out 79bhp and 141Nm. The combined power output stands at 114bhp and maximum usable torque is 141Nm. It is coupled to an e-CVT gearbox.

The new SUV is based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform that underpins the Brezza and the S-Cross. It will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi manufacturing facility near Bangalore in Karnataka.  If media reports are to be believed, Suzuki will also export the Made-in-India Grand Vitara to select international markets.

In terms of features, the new MSIL SUV gets a panoramic sunroof, ventilated leather seats, a 360 degree camera, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, head-up display or HUD, a digital instrument console and wireless connectivity. It will offer gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill hold assist, ESP and others.
